"Hi! This is Dr. Alida Smisek on behalf of expertvillage.com. I'm here to talk to you about teeth whitening tips and techniques. In this clip, we're going to talk about how to choose an over the counter whitening product. Unfortunately, there are a lot of whitening products out there on the market, and it's very difficult to know which one might be best for you. When you're choosing an over the counter whitening product you want to consider a few things. One thing is to consider how long the product will actually be in contact with you teeth. If you have a lot of staining on your teeth and you're choosing a product that's brushed or painted on, it's probably not going to be contacting your teeth long enough to remove the stain and get a good result. Also, you want to make sure that you're able to control where the product is going in your mouth. Some products that are brushed onto the teeth or painted onto the teeth may be coming in contact with your soft tissues and gums. That's not really where whitening products are meant to be, and this can cause irritation to these tissues and be really problem causing. That's another thing to consider with over the counter whitening products. It's always good to discuss with your dentist before you make a decision and make sure that you're a good candidate for whitening."
