"In this clip, we'll talk about complications from breast reduction surgery. The complications that one may have from breast reduction surgery involve the scaring. Which, is expected. Hopefully, the scaring will be relatively minimal. But, sometimes the scaring can be quite bad. This can occur, for example if the patient is a cigarette smoker or perhaps has diabetes or has wound healing problems. This would be an important consideration to discuss with your surgeon before surgery. If however, those factors are undisclosed or they're controlled as well as possible but intervened. Then there may be a wider scar, a thicker scar, a more elevated scar or there can actually be areas of he breast tissue that don't heal completely or even open up. And, so it leads to worse scaring. What we do for that, is we don't generally allow the wound to heal completely. And then eventually, six months, months, a year later once the scar has softened and matured completely we can consider varies techniques to improve a scar. One of which, is to inject a corticosteroid medication. Which, helps to soften the scar by realigning the collagen. And, another approach is to actually surgically remove the scar or a scar revision."
