"In this clip we'll talk further about different techniques of breast reduction. More traditional, older fashion breast reduction techniques involves utilizing longer scars. Now in days everyone is interested in having as little scars as possible, which is a very good goal. It's not always possible to accomplish that however. But in order to try to accomplish that, different techniques has developed to actually shape the breast tissue inside, and under the skin. The more traditional methods were to utilize the skin, to reduce the skin and then allow the breast to shape itself inside. The limitations there were sometimes the scar had to be very long, and could develop a quite unsightly appearance, especially at the lower part of the breast, across the fold, towards the middle of the chest and towards the outside of the chest. The newer techniques involve what's called a vertical scar technique, which involves only an up and down scar, from the nipple down to the chest, and then perhaps a small scar underneath, as oppose to what used to be a traditional long scar underneath. And that is afforded by the ability to shape the gland itself, the breast gland underneath, with internal shaping sutures that help to keep it in the proper position, and not rely so much on the scar."
