"In this clip, we'll talk about the preparation that the surgeon goes through to determine what the best operation is for the patient, and discussing planning the breast reduction operation. Here we have a nipple marker, and this has various diameters, it's actually an areolar marker, which would be for the outside border of the nipple. It has various diameters or distances, for a wider one or a smaller one, that would be utilized to place on the person's skin, and then make a marking to create the new nipple areolar complex. We do use a marker for a lot of markings on the patient, and then we use a ruler or a tape measure, that helps to determine the distance from the nipple up to the chest, and to determine the diameter of the breast, and make measurements that are specific to various different techniques for shaping the breast at surgery. Most of the markings, or all of the markings are made before surgery, for excellent preoperative planning for control of what happens at surgery. There are some changes that are made, have to be made sometimes, subtle changes at the time of surgery, but with all the preoperative planning, it helps to have as much information as possible, to create the best result possible."
