"In this clip we'll talk about complications from breast augmentation surgery. Fortunately the complications are relatively few. The most common complication that is of concern in breast augmentation surgery is re-operation. And re-operation happens for various reasons, one of which can be, infection, another which can be bleeding, another which can be size considerations, and then also implant failure, implant rupture. Finally capsular contracture, which is a condition where there can be scar tissue that can form around the breast implant and that can make it very difficult to have a good result, because of pain or deformity. Fortunately all of these complications happen at a relatively low rate. The bleeding or infection is in the one to two percent rate. The capsular contracture can be in a higher percentage, perhaps five to even ten percent. And this is a difficult problem, because there is not an easy solution. Capsular contracture is something that we try to avoid by doing a very clean, minimally bloody, no infection operation. And then early mobilization or early moving and massage, and placing the implant under the muscle are factors that we feel may help to control and minimize that problem."
