"Hi! My name is Alv Rios and I am a Paramedic with Lansing Mercy Ambulance on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip, we are going to speak about the importance of your chest compressions and the ratio of 30 to 2. When I talk about the ratio of 30 to 2, what I am talking about is actually 30 compressions for every two ventilations that you are going to give the patient. It is important to keep in mind that this is the new standard that we are going over now. Every year standards kind of change. From the last 20 years, the American Heart Association has gone through multiple different ratios of what they think is beneficial to the patient. The one that we are going to speak about is the 30 to 2 which is the most current. The reason for the 30 chest compressions, the two ventilations compared to last years 15 to 2 is the importance now that has been put on the actual compressions. They are finding that people before were giving too many ventilations in the 2 minute time frame and by doing that, they were expanding the stomach too much making it harder for the lungs to expand and causing the patient to vomit. Whereas they weren't putting enough emphasis on the actual chest compressions which is the key part of actually pumping the oxygenated blood to the brain and vital organs. "
