"This is the basics of massage etiquette, sensitivity to the client's mood regarding menstruation. Obviously, this is an issue that applies to female clients. Many experienced therapists know that it's common for a female client to cancel a therapy session if they're menstruating. One of the things that you can do to be sensitive to this is reassure the client that you're prepared for the situation through any of the different means that you can use to prepare. Extra padding on the tables in case there's an issue with any spotting that might occur or anything like that. From a therapeutic standpoint, obviously, there are many therapies, direct therapies and adjunct therapies, that can help relieve some of the issues that women experience from menstruation. Those are therapeutic issues that you can take up with your client specifically and work towards a more fulfilling, more successful therapy session with that client.
