"Hi! I'm Brenda F. Dixon, the owner of Life Help Now in Nashville, Tennessee. We're here today with Expert Village. Our topic is how to deal with anxiety disorders. I wanted to go back and give you another tip, another idea; something to do that might help you relieve some of the pressure of anxiety, frustrations from anxiety. One of the things that I like to tell my people that come into the counseling room in my practice is I actually I give them permission to ruminate, to think about the problem, to go over it, and go over it, and go over it. I give them permission. I don't say don't do that. What I do with the client is I tell them is I want you to take one block of time and I want you to not think, not speak, and not act in fear or worry. One block a time. Depending on the client, depending on the situation, it can be from one minute to fifteen minutes. It can be a whole afternoon. It kind of depends on the client and where they are in their particular situation. It has been very powerful and very effective to take these clients and let them try to know they have permission to think about it a certain block of time, but during one block of time, they don't speak it anymore. They just stop and put a moratorium on it. The client is amazed that they have the ability to do it. It's very effective to stopping anxiety disorders."
