Series Summary

Let’s face it. Without judgment or degradation, we can admit that most teenage girls today where more makeup than the escorts of a century ago. But this doesn’t have to be bad. Painting the face has been a religious and cultural tradition for thousands of years, and many people forget that makeup and sexual attractiveness are not always related. Wearing makeup for aesthetic reasons probably began with men, just like dresses, perfume, leggings, and jewelry. In different cultures different customs become popular. Think: it wasn’t so long ago that a male who manicured his eyebrows was creepy. Actors and actresses need special makeup to reduce the shine of bright lights, conceal blemishes or discolorations, and to become someone else! There are special tips and techniques a makeup artist must know to display film and television stars at their best!

Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Tracy Richards for Expert Village. I'm a professional makeup artist and I'm trained in makeup for film and television. And I'm here to tell you a little bit about my makeup kit and what the difference is between an amateur makeup artist and a professional makeup artist. The difference between an amateur makeup artist and a professional makeup artist: on our job, as a professional, we have to take into consideration hygiene. We have to make sure that everything is cleansed and ready to go for multiple people. And we have to make sure that their makeup is being maintained for twelve hours or more on set. We have to be prepared for little mishaps that might happen and make sure that we have those things in our kit, whereas somebody who doesn't do this for a living wouldn't exactly carry a lot of things that we do in our makeup kit. So, today we have a model and we are just doing a fresh clean look on her, nothing heavy as far as makeup. We want her to be an all American girl. We're staying very neutral with colors, and lips, eyes, the whole thing. It has to just be almost as if she's not wearing makeup, but it is enhanced. And, I'll show you how to do that. "
