"TRAVIS JOHNS: Hi. I'm Travis Johns with Expert Village and I'll be talking to you about staying organized in your video post production studio. Obviously, because it's only you, staying organized is your responsibility. There's a couple of things you can do to make sure that you stay on top of things over the course of a project. As it is, only one person or sometimes two or three, a small number of people, organization is key to make sure that you don't run into the problems that could otherwise be avoided. Keeping detailed notes on changes from clients is very important, making sure you know where all of your supplies are when it comes to yellow pads and of course your post-it notes for to-do lists for that day or for certain projects, very important to keep in mind. Staying organized also applies to the files on your computer. When it comes to a certain project, naming things in a congruent fashion, all having the same prefix is something that I do personally so that I know that each client--project isn't going to be mixed up with a bunch of other files. A lot of times when you've been working for an extended period of time, working on a deadline, keeping things as organized as possible is going to avoid mistakes in the end, certain spellings of names, any sorts of details that the client has requested, you want to make sure you're on top of it because you've made detailed notes beforehand. Any files in your computer, you want to keep track of them because when you're done you're going to have to archive everything so it doesn't take up excess space on your hard drives."
