"TRAVIS JOHNS: Hello. I'm Travis Johns for Expert Village. I'm going to be talking to you about client interaction for your video post-production studio. Obviously, as a freelancer, you're subcontracted out to anyone you'll be working with. Client interaction is important on many levels. Number one, when you first get the job, obviously, if they've given it to you, they have instilled a confidence that you know what you're going to do and you're going to deliver what you promised. It's always a good idea, however, to deliver a product that has exceeded their expectations the first time around. That way, it's a pretty safe bet that they're going to call you back for the second job to do it again. When you have interactions with any client, you want to make it as easy as possible for them to get a hold of you so that they feel like that they can count on you and you're dependable and you're going to deliver what you said you were going to in the first place. Another thing to take into account is your own personal protection. Certain clients, depending on how long you've worked with them before, say you're going into a client situation for the first time, it's a good idea to check them out, check for references, make sure from colleagues in your own field if they've had any dealings with them. Get a rundown on what's it like to work for them, get a rundown on what their expectations going to be. You don't want to go into something blindly and then find out in the middle of a project the client's making unreasonable demands or adding to your stress all the way around. Bottom line is they need you and you need them so you want to make it an equitable partnership and as easy for everyone involved as possible."
