Expanded Shell Magic Coin Tricks

" My name is Wayne Phelps. I’m a professional magician, and this is expertvillage.com. I got a really cool coin trick. I want to show you using a gimmick coin called an expanded shell. It’s a really cool effect. I think you’re going to enjoy it. For this all you need is two half dollars. I’m going to put the two half dollars together in my hand and just like this I’m going to shake them and you’re going to visibly see one of the coins vanish. I’m going to give them a little rub and one of the coins will magically turn invisible just like that. Did you see it happened? Right there it is. The coin actually appears right here in the air, it’s invisible. If I place on top of the coin purse and give it a little rub something magical happens. The coin turns visible and it appears inside the coin purse and that is the magic of the shell. This is how the trick works very similar to the flipper effect. In the coin purse the entire time lays a real half dollar. That lays on the table and I don’t draw too much attention to it. In fact I can pull the shell and another real coin out of that coin purse without showing the contents. People think these are the only two coins that exists and they don’t bother to think that I might be using an extra one. A shell is a hold up coin that looks like a real coin. It fits snugly over the face of a real coin. I can show two coins as one. I started out with two coins, which I show and I placed those into my hand. When I shake the coins I just position the shell over the top and before it fits down snugly like that I turn my hand over. That way I hide the fact there’s two coins there and one of them is a gimmick, I open my hand back up and there’s only one coin left. I take, set that down on the table, reach up into the air and produce a visible coin, lay it flat on top of the coin purse, show both sides press and rub. Now all I have to do is open the coin purse and reveal the real half dollar. That is an expanded shell. "
