" My name is Wayne Phelps. I’m a professional magician, and this is expertvillage.com. I’m going to talk a little bit with you about what a gimmick or a gaff coin is. Gimmick and gaff coins are designed to look real, feel real and also sound real. The bottom line though is they’re not. They’re fake coins that are produced for magicians to create certain magical effects that just can’t be done through sleight of hand. Gaff coins don’t really require a whole lot of skill when working with. There are simple effects that can be done and learned in just a few minutes. When you’re a brand new coin magician and you want to do some coin effects, but you’re not really good with the sleights or the manipulations, gaffs are really easy way to present yourself as an expert, or at least have some really cool effects that you only have to spend a couple of minutes learning how to do. Gaff coins come in all shapes, sorts and sizes and are designed for a lot of different purposes. For instance, gaff coins can be something as simple as two-tailed coin or double headed coin, or you have coins like this copper coin which is placed into my hands, and snap my fingers over it and it turns into a silver coin. In reality, it’s a copper on one side and silver on the other. Gaff coins come in all shapes and sizes, and they can be used to create several very powerful magical effects. I’m going to show you some little bit later on. I think you’re going to see gaff coins can be of a lot of fun when you know how to use them. "
