"This flute I call the river flute. About 3 or 4 years into my flute making experience, I bought a flute, which was made of river cane. It was very simple, just had a little slip of wood as the bird up on this part, another slip of river cane up there. It played very nicely so what I did was kind of copied the dimensions of the flute. It was an A minor pentatonic and I made a river flute that's an A. One of the unique characteristics of this flute is the 4 tuning holes down here for the air to go out to the 4 directions. What it does acoustically is basically makes the flute shorter as if the flute ended right here at these holes. There's not much lowering effect of the part of the flute below the hole. Even though it's a longer flute than that certainly that woodland in A that I played a minute ago, the flute is at the same pitch."
