Basically it starts off much like the A minor scale, it's A, B, C, D, E, and then F, and then instead of going to G it goes to G sharp, and then ending on the root note of A, so it's A, B, C, D, E, F, G sharp, A, and that's what gives it that tonality of the harmonic minor, and it kind of gives it that more brooding, sad, dark tone.
