"The suspended 2 chord is more popular, you will see this in folk music as well as jazz. It's a pretty common chord. Now, suspended, just that word suspended, means that you're going to replace the third of the chord with another note two or four. Sometimes something else, but usually two or four. In this case, if you take a G chord, G, B, D, a G major chord. It's saying let's get rid of the B, which is the third, and put something else in it's place. Here it's calling for the two. The second note in a G major scale would be A, a whole step above the root. So, instead of G, B, D, we want G, A, D. So let's look at a G chord, here. (play demo) Our B is under the middle finger, second fret on the A string. We want to get rid of that to make it suspended and put an A in it's place which is the 2, leaving us a G suspended 2 chord."
