"To rake the strings on a ukulele is essentially combining the left hand muting that we did earlier, the percussive kind of sound with a note at the end of that sound. Now you'll often see these, as well as left hand muting, written as "x's" in the sheet music. So instead of having, say note heads if you're reading sheet music, or numbers if you're reading tablature, you would just see an "x" with a stem. So that would be written as the rhythms, but "x's" instead. So a rake means you're still going to do that, but you're going to only pick through one time and with a note. So, so you get kind of a percussive introduction to the note the same way you did with a grace note. You had a little bit of a lead into the note. Here it was a half step below with the grace note, here you're using dead notes."
