"Earlier we talked about palm muting, often abbreviated P.M. in music. That was using the right hand, shifting it up from the bridge, under the strings to mute the strings slightly to get kind of a chugging sound. Now on the left hand, you can do left hand muting, where your fingers would lightly touch the strings enough so that you're not pushing down on the strings, but you're just muting them to make a completely dead sound. You have to be careful that you're not doing that over one of the nodes where the harmonics ring out. Primarily on the ukulele, on the twelfth fret, but they can occur at other places. Especially on better quality ukuleles. So the idea here is to just kind of get like a percussive sound so that you'll be playing rhythm without the notes."
