"A grace note is a very short or brief note that would precede your destination note. So for example, if I was playing this note here, and I wanted to get a little bit of a preface to it, some, kind of like doing a slide where I'd slide up to that note from an indefinite place below. Here I'm going to define the grace note as being a half step below the note. The grace note usually would be a hammer on to get to your destination note. You could do it as a slide too. Just a very quick slide from the previous note to your destination note. It's kind of like a trill, but you just stop after both notes are played once. So whereas a trill you play the notes back and forth, a grace note would mean you just play that first note, and as quickly as you can, get to that next note. Now sometimes this will be defined in the music and tell you exactly how fast that should be, but usually it's very, very quick."
