"On behalf of expertvillage.com, I'm Tom Flowers owner of Well Tempered Piano Tuning. I am here today to talk to you about piano tuning and maintenance. The piano in general has 88 keys as this one does. It has roughly 225 strings. In the case of the size and type of piano. This is a 5 foot 7, what we call a Parley brand. There are over 5,000 action parts here. It has 3 pedals, number of different woods involved so if you can see there are a number of things that can be right or wrong. As we look at the keyboard, we can see there are some unlevel keys here that can be addressed. The tuning in general has some rather dramatic problems but other than that, this piano is fairly structurally sound. The soundboard has some cracking in it as it is a 1909 and is weathered in desert southwest where we have such low humidity, those things happen. The nature of tuning a piano is one of adjusting what is between 18 and 20 tons of tension so if it is too far out, we have to do special type adjustments. In the case of this piano, it is close enough to have what we call standard tuning. "
