"Hi, I'm Tony Newton from Expert Village and we're talking about slap bass today. We're going to be talking about muting (hand muting both hands). This is a very important concept, when you're playing slap bass, because half of it is the slapping and half of it is muting. The muting all happens from the left hand. What we're going to do is just go over some sounds to get familiar with muting. Just hold your hand over the neck and don't push the strings down, but hold your fingers on the strings so that they do not ring when you hit them. You'll get this type of sound. Let's start off with just some muting (like that). 1 (nothing or lift up the hand). This is actually the sound. When you come back on the string that's actually the sound like this (music example). That's some of the stuff that you can get into. That's with no notes, just this (music example). Let's add some notes to that (music example). Let's add a pop to that (music example). We can also.. (music example). That's it for some muting, practice that alot, then you'll get very good at it."
