"How to Write the Screenplay Story Hello. My name is Tony Ramirez from Tampa, Florida and on behalf of Expert Village; this is "How to Write a Screenplay". Let's get started. Chapter 13- The Story. Of course, the most important part of your entire script is the story. Now the hardest part, at the same time, is coming up with an original story. Of course nowadays, especially nowadays, with all the different movies that have been out, whether they're mainstream, whether they're short films, Indy films, whatever it may be, is all the stories are pretty much the same. There is the "boy meets girl", there's the "chosen one"; There's all these stories. There's I believe it's approximately thirteen different stories that things can be. So what it is, is how you take these concepts and make them your own. Of course, just like "The Matrix", that was another "chosen one" story. Of course they applied it to technology and robots and things like that. This is what you want to do: You want to get something that is familiar to you, even if it's a life story that you've had and apply it to this basic structure and make it your own at the same time. So this short script that I wrote a while back is basically a revenge story of a cop drama. So it's how I wrote it, how the dialogue goes, and how the actual story follows that makes it my own. So that's the main thing you want to do, is write, write, write, read, read, read, watch movies, get ideas, listen to your own life and see if your life has stories worth putting into script form to try to make a movie out of it--whether it's a short movie or a complete feature. So work on your stories, make sure it's solid. Make sure it's a good story. Doesn't have to be a hundred percent original. If it's not, just make it your own in any way that you can--whether it's the way that the people speak, the scene that it's in, whatever it is, just try to make it your own. The hardest thing is the story; the best thing is the story. So work on your story. Have a good one as much as possible."
