"STEVE ANTHONY: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Steve Anthony. I'm here in New York City. Today, I'm going to talk a little bit about some beginning guitar picking techniques. Now, what you might have noticed, I was doing there was an alternating bass pattern with the finger picking. That was a C7 chord for those of you who are studying your chord positions. And you noticed I was just alternating with my ring finger of my neck hand between the C and the G string. That's how you play a bass pattern while finger picking. You can pick up the pace. And as you become more familiar with the chord structure, you understand what a 1 is and a 5, 1 being the root of the chord, 5 being the fifth. In this case, the octave below that is where I was playing, as I was finger picking."
