"Welcome to Expert Village. I'm Steve Blank, audio and video engineer for MindFood Productions, here to show you how we can record with electronic drums. Now that I have a click track, I also need a scratch vocal track so that when I lay down the drum track I know where I am at in the song. I've hooked up my condenser mic. to this sound card which has phantom power. My other sound card does not have phantom power so I've actually taken the output from this card and running it into the other card and then recording that into our software on this computer. So track one I've identified as click and track two we've armed, and you can see it jumping and we're ready to record our scratch vocal track. Well, I've recorded the scratch vocal track. The first time the levels were too high and when I listened back it was distorted. And then I reset the levels and it came out pretty nice. So now I have a count at the beginning of the song, and I kind of sing the melody that I start with. Then I proceed and sing all the vocals to where the vocals added in. The click track continues on after that to where there is going to be more instrumentation after the vocals are done. (play music)"
