"STEVE ANTHONY: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Steve Anthony. I'm here in New York City. Today, I'm going to talk a little bit about some beginning guitar picking techniques. Let's talk about the realities of physiology when it comes to finger picking. Your fingers are going to develop calluses. It's going to hurt, at first, if you're a beginner because as you pick, you're putting a lot of friction on those fingers on those strings, but don't let that scare you. You gotta build up your toughness. It's like working out at the gym, the more you do it, it hurts a little bit. But as you go along, you get a little stronger. It hurts a little bit less every single time. I don't even feel it anymore and you'll be the same way after just a little while. So we think about it in terms of abrasion and building up the calluses. You'll see the progress as you go along, day by day. Don't let it scare you."
