"STEVE ANTHONY: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Steve Anthony. I'm here in New York City. Today, I'm going to talk a little bit about some beginning guitar picking techniques. So now that we've had a look at basic flat picking, let's have a look at basic finger picking. You can do the same thing you did with the pick just with your empty thumb. Strum--it's a little softer tone but more mellow. Or you can get more specific, which is--if you want to get more advanced, you can do a picking pattern. But it's not necessary that you get into that sort of complicated procedure at this moment because we're just talking about beginning techniques. So well, if you don't have a pick in your hand, just use your fingers as if you did you have a pick. Some people just use the edge of their fingernails, which is a good trick if you drop your pick, which we do sometimes in performance."
