How to Close the Plot of a Play

"STEVE CAVERNO: Hi, I'm Steve Caverno on behalf of Expert Village. And today, I'll be talking to you about developing your plot. Now, we're going to talk about resolution. Romeo and Juliet are lying dead on each other's arms and we have answered that question what is going to happen to Romeo and Juliet. Now, still, there are more things to explore. What happens to the Capulets? That's still a dramatic question that hasn't been answered. And now, we have Montague and Capulet, will they ever reconcile? And the answer is it took Romeo and Juliet dying to bring these two enemies together. That is a dramatic question that is answered after the conflict. What happens to Verona? What happens to the other characters? Sometimes in a play, this is also revealed. In Hamlet, Fortinbras has returned. Fortinbras has been brought into the plot. What's going to happen with Fortinbras? Is Fortinbras going to be victorious in his crusade against Denmark? And at the end, when Hamlet is killed, after that, Horatio has his speech where he tells aught of woe and he tells Fortinbras about all the horrible things that happened. And then Fortinbras says that Hamlet will be remembered. That is a moment where we realize what will happen after the play. This gives us a look into what happens in the future and that's important. A good story shouldn't end at the ending. It should have a continuation. You should be able to see that something is going to happen after the story. Not having any questions but life will go on and this is how it will go on. We'll go on happily or will there be more tragedy to come."
