"I'm Teddy Kern at Dance Manhattan in New York City and this is Heather Gehring and Lou Brockman and we will be teaching foxtrot. The basic step of foxtrot is really consider slow, slow, quick, quick that is the basic rhythm and we are really dancing to the rhythm of the drum that is the beat that we dance to not the melody or the words but the beat of the drum and that is the rhythm of the man or the leader picks up and hears and decides whether if he is dancing slow or quick step. The rhythm slow, slow, quick came to dance forward or backwards or to the side. The 2 dancers Lou and Heather are going to be dancing basic steps progressing forward and it is called slow, slow, quick, quick. Lou on his left foot, Heather on your right foot she is the follower, he is the leader, he is dancing forward. Heather is slightly of set from the center she is not exactly in front of his chest position but slightly to his right. Right that is the position for the basic step and it sounds like this slow, slow, quick, quick. Ready and slow, slow, quick, quick that is 2 step forward and 1 step to the side."
