on 8/31/2009 I appreciate the effort, but you don't say WHICH WAY THE NECK IS BOWED! When you "teach", you never leave out such major "details". I PRESUME the neck is bowed in a "concave" direction.... this is the way a neck "usually" bows because of string tension. BUT NOT ALWAYS. The neck on my custom shop, LP is bowed in a convex direction. (which is amazing)

on 10/9/2008 Totally useless. You're just eyeballing the neck! Average dudes like us need a more precise measurement than "it looks good to me"...

"THE FERRET: All right. So I've got the truss rod wrench. I've got the cover taken off here. I'm just going to slide that over the nut to where I can feel that it's not moving, and sometimes you might have to loosen these strings to get it on there just right, which is the case right now. So I'm going to loosen this G string, and I'm going to pull it out of the nut and just move it over out of the way, so that I can get that wrench on there. Are you sure this is the right wrench? Okay, so now that's on there and it's not moving, I know it's going to be adjusted. What I'm going to do is I'm going to turn it to my right as I'm looking down and that's going to bring the neck up a little bit. I'm going to give it maybe a quarter turn and then look at it again. Okay, now it's looking like it's nice and straight. Sometimes, it doesn't take but just a small adjustment."
