"Hi, I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to learn the basics in rock drumming. I like to call it "Rock Drumming 101 - The Basics". So now that we've finally gotten the high hat into the mix, we're going to continue on with that. But now, we're going to add in the left hand, playing the snare drum on two and four, like we were doing earlier by itself. Now, we've got the high hat. So, in this step, let's start off by playing the high hat by itself on all four beats. One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, snare drum on two and four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, and notice my high hat and snare drum hit exactly at the same time on beats two and four. See how the sticks raise up together, on beats two and four? Two, three, four, one, two, three, four. So in that, see cause when you're playing, you're playing your high hat and this is called a cross over. It looks that your left hand when you go to hit the snare drum, is going to hit your high hat stick. But, they're coming up at the same time, so it will never happen. So, so you got one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. If that's too fast, bring it back. Slow it down. There's no since in playing it too fast if you can't do it. Right? So, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. So, it seems simple enough. Keep working on it. Keep practicing, you're not going to get it in two minutes. You've got to keep practicing for long periods of time. But I think you've got a good start on the right way to playing a basic rock drum beat."
