"Equally important to picking and pretty much anything else to do with the guitar is strumming. It's a basically your rhythmic component to playing guitar. So in what I'm going to show you here is just a few variety of different strums how to properly hold a pick while you're strumming and to properly execute strumming. So I'm just going to make a simple G chord and strumming essentially is just the simple motion of down strokes and up strokes. And it's all in a matter of timing so when you're holding your pick you want your hand relaxed and your wrist relaxed. So you don't want it stiff otherwise your timings not going to be there. So what we're going to do here is simply go, and basically what I'm doing here timing wise is one and two and three and, the up strokes are on the and, and the down strokes are on the number. So played slowly you go one and two and three and, and then a little faster we're going to play it like this, one and two and three and two and three and, end it back on the down stroke."
