"In this example I'm going to play a lick, basically following the A major scale but intermittently hitting notes that'll follow the F chord, and pretty much showing here where it's a dramatic rise up, mood wise, and with the music you'll hear it will sound like this. And so what I did there was pretty much played--pretty much stuck to the A minor scale because of the F, because that typically follows the A minor. But I started--you know, I made sure I hit the notes that fell over A, like E for example, and tried to basically work up to where I end up on the root of A. So playing that, it's...it's basically following A minor, really, even though I'm playing an A major chord, but as you can hear, as long as the notes are placed correctly, especially on the odd progressions such as A major F major, you can throw in different scales that'll work with the progression."
