"In this example I'm going to play rock riff in A and it's a bit more of a strum except what I'm going to be doing is using open stings with the major chords here. In this example it's going to be A major and using the open B and E strings, so with the drums it sounds like this. So what I did there is played A, with the open B and E strings, then slid it down to the first fret to make it F major, then a regular G, open chord, back to F, and then end it with the A5. So the open strings, like bands particularly from the seventies and eighties, Rush, and other bands that followed like Queensryche and some other bands would use open strings with usually major chord forms like that. To give it that kind of dreamy, kind of airy sound to a heavy rock idea."
