"This example, I'm going to do a riff basically based on the key of E minor again. Except, I'm going to use more of a scales in it and playing muted over a simple drum beat. Again, something that was really started in the eighties and kind of disappeared for awhile and has resurfaced over the last few years. Especially, with bands like Avenge Seven Fold and different type bands are using old school metal and kind of giving it a modern twist to it. So, with the drums it sounds like this. So, what I did there was pretty much just played through a scale and muted it instead of going. I muted it to give it a nice little effect. And, what I'm doing there is playing the fifth fret starting with D working down C-B-C. And, then playing on the A and G. So, D-C-B-C-B-C-A-G. So, you know again it's a different idea you can use in conjunction with a chord progression or a groove or a chunk or whatever you want to call it. But, you can just simply. And, what you have there again is a nice kind of like sinister sounding riff played for like heavier type music."
