"In this example of playing an E rock riff, I'm going to play a bluesier bass riff and I'm going to cover a few segments on this. Blues basically was one of the primary contributors to the birth of rock and even in modern music we've heard staple blues type progressions used in conjunction with a heavier distorted rock tone in modern music. So what I'm going to do here, I'll go ahead and play you the riff with the drums. What I did there was took a very basic blues progression in E, not even a progression, just the E chord of itself, added a muted technique on the notes I was picking and gave it a more modern feel to an old standard basically. So what I was doing there is playing E5. So going E, G sharp and then quickly to G sharp and then B to C sharp and then back to B. So again its. And you get an idea that you can take from some old school or an old standard and implement into your modern repertoire."
