"In rock, especially in soloing, another really common technique was to switch your pickups, which in this case I've got three different selections. If you're playing a "Strat" style guitar they come with a five selector switch that's often placed down here, and it's nice sometimes to use either the middle, or the bridge, I'm sorry, the neck pickup, this pickup, and get that brighter sound on the bridge, but you get that dirtier sound for the neck, and especially in rock with the distortion in the distorted tone you can play some more like either speed licks, or blues licks, and it has a nice effect to it. In this particular example I'm going to show a blues lick, played with distortion and rock style on the neck pick-up. So basically what I did there was an A minor pentatonic, I went and bend up on the seventh. A little vibrator there. Bend on the seventh, five, five, five, eight, five, then a full bend, and then end it with a nice vibrato."
