"What I'd like to talk about now is utilizing picking, where I've been talking about tapping and hammer-ons and pull offs and different techniques. Picking in rock, as far as leads, there was a lot of different things sometimes and some of the examples I'm going to be showing right now is using more of what's called trim picking, or tremolo picking, basically meaning you're just going. And while holding your pick, the way I do it is the standard accepted way to hold a pick, and that's simply, as little bit of the pick sticking out here, holding it in a grip. And I'm not actually gripping it that hard, it's just simply utilizing the muscles in between my wrist and my elbow. And it helps to get for a clean picking. So that's the kind of technique I use, and many other really far better players as well. The first lick I'd like to show is just basically an E minor lick. We're all going to be basically picking. It's kind of an old school metal lick, as done by famous metal bands. So, played up to speed, I'm playing the five, seven, eight."
