"I want to talk about rock licks, and I've been talking about rhythms before that, and basically using licks for solos and playing lead style in rock 'n roll. And basically I'm going to cover a lot of different formats, scales, techniques, arpeggios, so forth and so on. This first lick, what I want to show, is basically like a bluesier style lick but played with that harder edge of rock which is popularized by players like Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton and on up to today, so. What I'm going to do is a minor pentatonic lick, and it's going to go like this... and basically what I did there is just simply play some harmonized chords. And mixed it with part of the scale. So slow down, what I'm doing is on the fifth fret, bending up on the seventh fret on the G and the B strings, pulling off on the G string, play on the D for one note, and then coming back and adding a little vibrato. So basically what I'm mixing there is harmonized chords, pull-offs, and vibrato."
