The Mambo is a Cuban dance that originated in 1938 when a song or “danzon” called Mambo was written for Orestes. It was an upbeat lively song that was easy to dance to. In the 40's a man named Perez Prado developed the dance for the Mambo and being a musician himself began marketing his music as Mambo music. Since then there have been several imitators and competitors marketing similar music as Mambo music but Prado was the first. Today the Mambo is a world famous dance and musical style that is hard to mistake.
