"SCOTT DUPONT: Hi. Scott duPont here. Welcome back once again and I'm the producer of a DVD called "Acting-101: How to Be a Working Actor." I'm here on behalf of Expert village today. Now in this segment, we're going to talk about knowing your product type, extremely important. You wouldn't go and try to sell a box of cereal unless you knew what was in the cereal, right? Or sell a car unless you know what's in a car. It's the same thing as an actor. One of my best friends in the world is an actor; this is actually an older headshot. I wish he had a more recent one. His name is John Wyrick [PH] and I'll be honest. John is a good friend of mine so I can say this. He is short, fat, bald, and he has a great face for radio, okay? So with all that's said, here is the nice thing too about this business. You don't have to be the best looking guy or a supermodel girl because in this market, there is all types. Now the way John--what John did is he went out to the local airport and he did a survey of about 10 questions. He went up to complete strangers and he asked these strangers how old do you think I am. What do you think I do for a living, would I do a blue collar type of job, like am I cable repair man, a ditch digger, do I work on maintenance. Do I mow lawns or am I a white collar type of worker. Would I work in an office, am I businessman, a banker, or a salesman, okay? Then he asked the question, am I married, do I have any kids, what kind of car do I drive, what kind of activities or sports do I do. When John did about a hundred of those little questionnaires and they're really fun to do, I did one myself. He found out that he is -- his age range right now is about 50 to 60 because he is really loosing a little bit more of his hair on top, okay? You can't see from the headshot, but he is kind a pudgy. He is a little overweight so he is the blue collar type. He is the guy out there digging ditches or working as a plumber. That's his type. His nickname is Joe Sixpack because for his activities, he is the guy that goes to the bowling alley and takes back a few beers. So anyway, you if want to do these surveys, ask complete strangers. Don't ask friends or family to get an unbiased overall view of what your product is and that will help you sell yourself as an actor. There's more and we'll be back with more tips on Expert Village."
