Video Transcript

"SCOTT DUPONT: Hi, my name is Scott duPont. I'm a working actor and I'm also the producer of a DVD called "Acting 101: How to be a Working Actor." And we're doing this on the part of the segment of Expert Village. Now, what I'd like to do here is give you an overview of the many different acting jobs that you see in different parts of the country. You don't necessarily have to live in L.A. or have to live in New York. These jobs could be found pretty much anywhere in most metropolitan markets if you live near a big city. I happen to live in Orlando, Florida, and I'll tell you about some of the different acting opportunities that are here, even for beginning actors. Of course there is film, not as much film as places like New York, of course, but there is a lot of indie films too, which are a great way to get started, and some of them go to DVD and some of them might go to TVD--excuse me, to TV. That leads us to television. Certain markets have more television; some markets have less, but that's an opportunity that can run your way from time to time. Most markets have a lot of commercials, and Orlando is no exception. It's a huge commercial market. We've got all the theme parks; we've got restaurants, car companies. You name it. And every commercial you see on TV could technically be shot in any major city outside of the big New York, L.A. markets. That leads us also to--commercials leads us to corporate videos, which I do a lot of, and that--we call those industrials or sometimes training videos. So they don't necessarily air on TV. In fact, a lot of them are used for training purposes or shown behind the scenes or just to employees, but they pay quite well. Another avenue of acting that ties into corporate is live events or corporate hosting. Then there's also voiceover, of course, what I'm doing right now without the picture, and then there is print work where you actually do a brochure, a billboard or sometimes more and more people are just taking their picture for Web sites and that pays. And then of course, last but not least, there is extra work, and I love doing extra work. Just a day here, a day there. You don't want to make a career out of it, necessarily. But if I'm not booked on a particular job, it's a great way to pick up 75 to 100 bucks. And then me, I network with a lot of industry people, so if you want to see more segments, just check them out on Expert Village."
