"SCOTT DUPONT: Scott duPont. Welcome back to Film Producing 101 on behalf of Expert Village. So the next topic we're going to talk about here is getting a few key crew members. How to build a team so to speak. When you go out to get your first film going, whether you're trying to recruit your cast and your regular crew members or whether you're trying to bring in a little bit of money or get vendors that can help trade out some products, some film stock, lighting gear, all that equipment you'll need. It's really tough to do if you don't have a lot of experience and you're kind of doing it all by yourself. So what you've gotta do is you've gotta appear very well-organized with a very, very clear vision. First thing you want to start with, this is critical, is you have to start with a great script. And then you can get the script in front of a couple of potential directors that maybe haven't directed a feature film. Maybe they've directed several short films and gotten some exposure and you really see some potential in this director. You can't pay that director a lot of money, but if you're producing it and you offer it to this director, that's a great opportunity for that director to direct his or her first feature film. And it's the same thing with getting your director of photography. Maybe you reach out in the local film community and you find someone that has his or her own camera, that's always a plus, or someone's that's operated the camera a lot, but really hasn't had the opportunity to be a D.P. or what we call a Directory of Photography for a feature film. So all these people you can help get their resume credits and help them get what they want while helping yourself get this film off the ground. So that's the key thing. It's just reaching out and getting a few key crew members to build your team and you will move forward. On behalf of Expert Village, thanks for tuning in. We'll be right back."
