"Hi! This is Shana Bethune on behalf of Expert Village and I am going to talk to you about recording electrica guitar. You will probably want to have more than one guitar track when you are recording even if you are just doubling a simple part. This will give your guitar a thicker sound. Use either a different guitar or a different amp for each part so that you have a diverse group of sounds. If you don't have a different amp, think about using different amp settings. One guitar can sound very different depending on what pick up you use or how you use your amp. Using a small amp could actually be a very good idea. If you want a distorted sound, a small amp will distort at a lower volume. This is a big plus if you are worried about annoying your neighbors and some great recordings have been made by distorting small amps. When you are making your amp, place the mic as close as you can to the center of the amp. Experiment with volume levels to get what you want. You can try adjusting the volume on the amp or the volume on the guitar. Recording directly from your guitar into the computer will not sound as good. The signal is going to be weaker. However, this can work in a pinch. Particularly if you are making a demo, this will save you time and these days there are a lot of effects to make the signal sound better. Whichever choice you make, creativity goes a long way in recording electric guitar. "
