"Hi this is Shana Bethune and on behalf of Expert Village and I'm going to talk to you about working with sequences in final cut pro. Now a sequence is a collection of clips that you edit in the time line down here. There are a few different ways to work with sequences. You can create one long sequence that combines all the clips that you want that makeup the film that you are creating. Or you can work with a variety of smaller sequences and create different portions which you can edit together later. In order to make a new sequence go to file, new, and sequence. The sequence would appear over here with a little sequence icon next to it and double click on it to open it on a time line. Since this is a new sequence there aren't any clips in it yet. There are a variety different ways I can add clips to this new sequence. If you are making a variety of different clips let's say chapters on a dvd using sequences can help you make all of these clips within the same project rather than having to use a different project each time you want to work on a different clip."
