"RYAN LARSON: So, now we're going to take a look at the scale as it's written out in tab. So, this is our tab. We have our top string down to our low string, 1-2-3-4 and we set it on our bottom string on the 5th fret, notice I put a square around that. That's colored in. That's to notate where the 1 is. And the second one, a root of the 8th--or A out of the A major scale is right here on the 2nd fret top string and we go up, 2-4-5-2-4-5-2-4-6-2-4-6. So, that's your basic fret pattern. And again, remember, we just start on 5 and if we count up one through seven, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, and then we landed on our 1 again, right? 1-2-3 and then likewise, we have 1-7-6 down here. So, you have all these notes out of the major scale, just add to this one pattern and you have your root and your root right there, going to 1 to 1. So, you want to write this down at home and make sure you notate it and we're going to go through it and give you all the alphabetical names as well which you can see at the bottom of the page here. And if it helps you, you might want to put the letters above. So, it goes A, B, C-sharp, D, E, F-sharp, G-sharp, A and we'll go through it and show you how to utilize this information and how to take it and utilize it for analyzing real books and real book tunes as well."
