"RYAN LARSON: Now, we're going to take you through and run through some bebop on the bass. Now, the problem with our major scale is it's a seven-note scale but we're walking in 4/4. We need eight notes to get to 1 so I'll show you what I mean. 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1. See I had to play 1 twice to get there. It doesn't really sound to hip. So what bebop cuts to is they throw a little chromatic note in there. So I'm going to use this open fret here. See how much jazzier that is? So now, I'm using some 3rd frets. Remember we leave the whole 3rd fret out but I'm going to use it as a passing tone. And again, we just want to get the eight beats before the 1; 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1. That's walking through the bass in A major, doing some bebop."
