"RYAN LARSON: Now, when you're approaching recording with a microphone your shaker I'm just going to do with a simple mic here. The best way to get the best sound is to have it-you'll probably have it on the boom stand but I'm going to show you right now just holding the mic and you want to really have it about this far away from the mic. And depending upon the mic quality and the different ways the mic picks up, you can get different tones by going from the side and then switching to the front. We'll be almost the same effect as our muting effect. So, we'll change the tone quality of the actual shaker. Again, if you have the shaker too far from the mic, it's not going to pick up anything or just going to get way too much air out of the mic and you'll get a lot of fuss in your recording and recording quality. So, you want to be right on the mic and really get intimate with it. And this is great if you want to just do a light little-where you just have a couple of little beads rolling around in there but you get that cool sound. You can really hear it when you mic it and you're right up on there. So, you want to make sure you're really close to the mic. And again, you can move it around and get different sound effects by approaching the mic different ways with your shaker."
