"RYAN LARSON: So, now we're going to go over our basic position and we just take the shaker, hold it like this, simple, hold it up, aahh. You just want to move it back and forth, 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 and you're going to slap. If you move it hard in a jerking motion 2-4-2-3-4, and a 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4. And what you're basically doing is you have a bunch of little balls in here and you're just slapping it against side of the shaker and when you hit it hard, it takes all of them. It just forces it against the wall there and that makes that slapping noise. So, this is a good thing. I used to just do this while driving and listening to Bob Marley, just get that shaker going. And the more you get your hand moving naturally, the more the shaker will just fall. It's very easy to lose this rhythm but you just have to keep a nice steady pulse and you shaking it up. That's your first technique on the shaker."
