Series Summary

Music has always been a part of all of us as human beings. This being the case we have devised ways to write it, read it and of course play it. We have developed terms for every musical scenario that might occur and ways to teach all of this as well. Things like minor and major, 7th chords, intervals and chords are all great examples of the way we like to organize things as a species. Improvisation is a great example of the speed at which our brains work. Very popular among jazz players, improvisation is a great tool to test your knowledge of the instrument as well as let go of some of the rules.

In this great video series our expert Ryan Larson, a great accordion player, shows us not only how to play in the key of D and all the notes in that key but also how to instantly better our improvisational skills. You will learn all the facets of the instrument as well as techniques for how to play both sides of it. You are only able to improvise with as much as you know so make sure the next time you're jamming with your friends you wow them with how well you know your instrument, whatever it might be!

"Now we have the accordion here. What we're going to do is give you an over run of the instrument. First of all, you have these buttons and each button gives you a different sound. So I click the harmonium on the accordion. Now if I do it with the bassoon. One thing you don't want to do is you can push two buttons at the same time and get an in between sound, but it will mess with the keys. Here I'll show you though. That is not good for your accordion so you don't want to do that. It will mess with the mechanics in there. You have these left hand buttons which give you different left hand sounds. We're going to go through and show you also how to move around on the accordion in D major including the D major scales and how to find your D major chords. We're going to show you on the left hand how to find your chords as well and relate them to the theory that you get out of seeing it visually on the right hand. That's what we're going to do today in D major and at the end we're going to take all this information and run it through blues as we read through some nice easy accordion sheet music."
