"RYAN LARSON: Now we're going to show you how we analyze music at a college level and the way they do that is with roman numerals and you go through the actual scale and number it, and uppercase roman numerals represent major chords and lowercase represent minor. So we have a I major, ii minor, iii minor, iv major, V7, vi minor, and vii diminished and this should have a 7 next to it, it's a V7 chord. And we go through, this would be our scale. All right we have B flat major, C minor, D minor, E flat major, F7, G minor, and A half diminished. So that's our scale as it's written with roman numerals. So when you go through and analyze music, right? We'll start with B flat major. There's our I major, C minor, right? B, C, there's our ii minor, F7 right? B-C-D-E-F. There's our 7th chord, our V7, C minor, ii minor again, V7. So you can go through and analyze the actual music and then match it up with the numbers on your fretboard, I major, ii minor, ii minor-V7, I. So I'm playing the degree of the scale on the down beat, I, ii, ii-V, I. So that's a quick run-through of how to utilize these different numbers and different degrees of the scale with roman numerals as we go through and analyze your music and the songs you're going to play in B flat."
